The Nutanix-VMware partnership; industry diversity | #VMworld

In a recent interview with theCUBE, Nutanix, Inc. reps not only talked about the importance of teamwork, but also the value of building diverse teams.

Stu Miniman (@stu), cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down with Venugopal Pai, VP of Alliances at Nutanix, and Julie O’Brien, VP of Corporate Marketing at Nutanix. Miniman first wanted to know, in light of publicized conflicts, how Nutanix and VMware, Inc. really work together.

Pretty darn well, it seems. Despite the occasional challenges that would occur with any partnership, the two companies work together to meet customer demands.

“We work closely with VMware on all aspects of verification and validation,” Pai said. “We work with VMware on the support side to make sure that when situations arise, the customer is not penalized. Second, we go through a lot of certification across the spectrum of applications and APIs that VMware puts out. That integration … is a fundamental element of why we have ecosystems.”

Customers want problems solved

O’Brien noted that, really, the vendors pay more attention to so-called “battles” than customers. Customers just want problems solved.

One issue that O’Brien and many others in the tech industry want to solve is how to create more diversity in the workplace. O’Brien joined representatives from Dell, Cisco and the Oakland Unified School District, among others, at a recent conference to discuss diversity in the high-tech industry.

O’Brien said the companies came together to share best practices and consider ways to “cast a wider net” when recruiting talent. “It was amazing to see the engagement in the room,” O’Brien said. “It’s clearly a hot topic across the industry.”
