Evernote on Android: Biggest Upgrade to Date

Evernote, the popular note-taking and storage platform, recently published a much-awaited (and much-needed) update, Evernote 2.0. The upgrade has been talked about as a major product enhancement of the company to date. It is also a nod to the rapid growth of the Android platform that companies are increasingly polishing their respective platforms.

Among the significant improvements of the new version is a better interface with almost all screens available. All the key features, like the capability of taking notes, snap pictures, and audio recording, can still be found in the app. The aesthetic improvement can easily be seen in the improved home screen and beyond that, better integration with the Android platform and better performance as a whole.

“We’re really psyched to see the tremendous growth of the Android platform. We love the capabilities available in the new OS, as well as the variety of great new hardware–phones, tablets, netbooks, and more.

But the thing that gets us the most excited is Evernote 2.0 for Android, available now from the Android Market. This is the biggest leap in functionality we’ve ever had on any platform in a single release.”

The biggest updates are around the app’s interfacing, which has readily accessible search tabs on every page, new note organization options, and visual swipe browsing.  You can group notes together around location and other factors, making it easier to filter back through saved notes.  The great thing about Evernote’s update is that it works even more like your natural brain function, which is the goal and benefit of Evernote’s product in the first place.  See here for the full details.

Last month, Evernote raised $20 million in a third round of financing which CEO Phil Libin said would be used to expand its services beyond the consumer market, a statement that might have been an early initial announcement of the upgrade.

Despite the latest innovation, Evernote it is still committed to being available on all major platforms, with its recent Windows Phone 7 app as well.
