QLogic’s Performace Boost Comes on InfiniBand

New world records have been established for non-coalescent message rate performance, by 7300 Series QDR InfiniBand host channel adapters, while QLogic 7300 Series QDR host channel adapter, which runs on Intel’s Xeon 5600, reached a 23.7 million messages per second, a 7.8 time improvement in comparison with InfiniBand devices.image

Based on QLogic TrueScale’s design, the new performance resulted in a cluster message rate of over 86 million messages per second, which is 2.3 time greater that the current response of InfiniBand adapters.

QLogic’s new devices’ performance is translated into faster applications, while clusters will be more effective in scaling. Therefore, the price-performance ratio is definitively improved, marking an attractive point for clients to consider.

The tests were done using The Ohio State University message bandwidth benchmark. The architecture of the testing system was a fourteen node cluster with two switches linked between them. Each switch was connected to seven nodes. An Inter-switch was used to gauge the message rate performance.

Scott Genereux, QLogic SVP, discusses how QLogic is positioned to provide all of the solutions from FC, Ethernet (FCoE, iSCSI) and InfiniBand

Joseph Yaworki, director of global alliances and solution marketing at QLogic mentioned about company’s abilities to perform the followings:  “These world record rate performance numbers show that QLogic TrueScale InfiniBand is the best architecture for running a wide range of customer and ISV-developed applications at optimal performance.”

Breaking the current records in terms of performance and innovation, Wikibon analyst Stu Miniman predicts the coverage that the QLogic subject will give at a Supercomputing conference, which will be held next week in New Orleans, noting that “InfiniBand has been a hot topic recently and is sure to be a major topic at SC10.  InfiniBand is used in the most demanding compute environments in the world.  With these latest tests, QLogic has surpassed the competition in price-per-performance results.”

QLogic is a worldwide known manufacturer and developer for high performance equipment and technologies in networking. Many leading OEMs and channel partners use their products for their applications, which include data, storage and server networking.  Flexibility and performance are central to QLogic’s mantra, and the company is always looking to set precedents, as it did with a product launch earlier this fall.
