Ethernet Milestone for Juniper Networks, with Verizon Tie-Up

It’s been just over a year since Juniper Networks debuted its speedy 100G Ethernet, and today marks some major milestones for the company’s expansion.  Two new partners for 100G Ethernet include Verizon and Internet2.

The industry-leading 100G Ethernet will be deployed by Verizon on the European expanded backbone network from Paris to Frankfurt. This milestone step is translated into enabling 100G Ethernet connections between routers on its IP network.

Ihab Tarazi, the vice president of global network planning for Verizon added that “This latest 100G Ethernet advancement is further confirmation of Verizon’s commitment to the next-generation technology, which is vital to meet the continued demand for IP-based services and applications from both wired and wireless broadband devices.”

Also, Philippe Morin, Senior vice president of Ciena;s  global products global – which is using the new technology among Verizon, commented that “This industry-leading 100G Ethernet deployment with Verizon is a testament to our unique expertise and field-proven experience in providing customers reliable and simple network upgrades to 40G and 100G.”

Simultaneously, Internet2 also announced the deployment of 100G Ethernet network nationwide U.S. The company received the financial support from National Telecommunications and Information Administration for creating a high capacity anchor for educational institutions. The capabilities of the network will provide community anchors to more than 200,000 institutions.

Rob Vietzke, executive director of Internet2 , commented that “Internet2 plays an important role in connecting community anchor institutions around the nation to advance research and education and to encourage the adoption of next-generation Internet applications.”

Juniper Networks, which collaborated with Internet2 in their attempt to meet the requirements for improved network technologies also is the indirect beneficiary of the Verizon’s significant deal as well.  It indicates the strong growth Juniper Networks is currently seeing, for its broadening array of tools for a streamlined virtual environment within the entrprise.

Some recent developments for Juniper Networks include updates to IPv6, as well as a mini boost in share prices thanks to Wall Street speculation in the past week.  But one of the company’s biggest announcements these past few weeks has been its new mobile securities offering, designed for businesses to create mobile solutions for themselves and clients.
