Motorola Funds BlackArrow to Speed Adoption of Mobile Video Ads

Motorola Ventures announced its investment in BlackArrow, a global provider of advanced advertising solutions for New Television platforms. This marks an extension of BlackArrow’s recently announced series C round of financing.

“Motorola Ventures invests in companies that accelerate our business strategy and are integral to our overall innovation efforts,” said Harshul Sanghi, managing director, Motorola Ventures. “Motorola’s presence and leadership in the video content delivery space will provide significant visibility for BlackArrow within their key markets.”

With the increasing number platforms available today such as video-on-demand (VoD), DVR, mobile devices and broadband; advertising-solution providers, advertisers, television programmers and content distributors are continuously challenged to create advertising and business models that will cope up with macro-shift in the way audiences watch their favorite programs.

“Motorola’s reputation for technological excellence, its rich and diverse product mix and its worldwide customer base create a powerful opportunity to accelerate and drive scale, increasing the value around the business of advanced advertising,” said Dean Denhart, CEO of BlackArrow. “Our work together will enable programmers and distributors to monetize premium television programming across a broad spectrum of New TV platforms and devices.”

The collaboration entails the development of solutions for set-top boxes, mobile and cloud-based, hosted video services and IP video delivery. The additional funding will be used for product development and global launch of Advances Advertising System to networks and TV content distributors.

It’s a move that validates the ongoing growth of IP video distribution, especially as it pertains to worldwide delivery and montization.  Localized efforts around advertising is a huge part of what’s taking place with the development of video-driven media, and we’re seeing a number of companies receiving funding and launching new products to address the growing demand.  For mobile in particular, the industry is expected to really begin to boom in the coming year, and it’s evident that Motorola is interested in being a central player in its distribution efforts.
