Car technology and self-driving cars are set to be one of the main features of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, which starts this week in Las Vegas. Big car manufacturers will unveil a variety of new car technology at this year’s event, but some manufacturers have already gotten ahead of the group.

Here’s a look at the car technology and concept cars that have already made an appearance at CES:

Faraday Future unveils super fast electric car

Faraday & Future Inc. (known as Faraday Future) has finally unveiled its FF 91 production model (above), which the company claims is the world’s fastest electric car.

The 1,050 horsepower FF 91 can reach a speed of 60mph in 2.39 seconds, slightly faster than Tesla Motors’ Model S P100D with Ludicrous Mode. Faraday Future said the FF 91 will have a range of 378 miles.

The company also said the FF 91 will be able to track passengers’ personal settings regardless of the seat they are sitting in. The rear seats recline almost flat and offer massage, heating and ventilation for cooling.

The FF 91’s panoramic roof, rear and side windows include smart dimming glass technology. Users can tap on the glass to instantly get privacy and shade.

A high definition display replaces the FF 91’s rearview mirror and merges the live feed from the side mirrors and rearview camera into a single image.

The FF 91 will also feature autonomous driving with 3D lidar, 10 high-definition cameras, 13 long and short range radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. While on the outside of the car, different light signatures will indicate the current driving mode.

If you want to be one of the first owners of the FF 91 you can reserve it now for $5,000 (fully refundable, if you change your mind) with first deliveries to take place in 2018. A 2018 delivery date isn’t too far away considering the company doesn’t have a production plant yet. Its site in Nevada has been leveled, but no building has started yet, so we will have to wait and see whether they meet the delivery date.

The company didn’t announce the final price for the FF 91.

Chrysler Portal concept minivan unveiled at CES

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has unveiled a concept minivan at CES called the Chrysler Portal. The minivan has been designed for millennials and will have an estimated range of 250 miles on a full charge.

Inside the Chrysler Portal, the seating arrangement is flexible with the ability for seats to fold flat, fold up and forward and back. Seats can also be removed completely.

The Chrysler Portal concept minivan is capable of SAE Level Three semi-autonomous operation and comes with various sensor technologies including lidar, radar, sonar and vision.  

The company announced no plans to bring the Chrysler Portal into production, but certain features could be incorporated into future Chrysler vehicles.

Much more car tech still to come

With CES officially only kicking off from Jan. 5, a lot more car technology will be unveiled this week. Car manufacturers, including BMW, Continental, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, as well as startup Eli Electric Vehicles are all rumored to unveil its latest innovations at the 50th annual technology show.
