SAP updates S/4Hana Cloud with vertical editions, CoPilot & more

German enterprise software firm SAP SE has rolled out a major new update to its S/4Hana Cloud product, which is a combination of the company’s popular business suite and its flagship Hana in-memory database, running in the cloud.

SAP announced the new update at SAP Capital Markets Day at the New York Stock Exchange Thursday, touting its enterprise resource planning suite’s ability to adjust and adopt business processes and models on the fly, acting on real-time insights and advice. The company also revealed different versions of S/4Hana Cloud for various vertical industries, including enterprise management, finance and professional services.

Other new upgrades include project management capabilities for each vertical, and a number of 2017’s must-have features, including machine intelligence and a digital assistant that’s similar to Apple’s Siri. The machine intelligence upgrade means that SAP-powered apps can do things such as recognize different invoices from the same customer.

The digital assistant is known as “SAP CoPilot,” which is kind of like Apple’s Siri in that it can do things such as produce lists of recent interactions with specific customers, search records and much more. For now, users will have to type queries for SAP CoPilot, but the company is planning to add voice queries “eventually,” it said in a release.

SAP has also joined the continuous integration bandwagon, saying that S/4Hana Cloud will be updated on a quarterly basis going forward. Some of the new updates will include additional vertical editions of the platform, while the company is promising to add further AI and machine learning functionality, pre-populated settings, additional cloud-to-cloud integration, as well as external application programming interfaces that will enable the integration of other applications and legacy systems.

Finally, SAP said it’s planning to add new blockchain digital ledger and Internet of Things capabilities to S/4Hana Cloud, which will help the platform to support broader global and digital business models.
