How companies can tackle security and compliance for multi-cloud workloads

As if managing multi-cloud workloads were not difficult enough, security threats and tightening compliance regulations are adding even more to the pot. Can companies keep it from boiling over?

“Yes, there is hope,” said  Kapil Raina (pictured), vice president of product marketing at HyTrust Inc. He said that HyTrust specialized in simplifying security and compliance for multi-cloud workloads.

Raina spoke to Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio, during the RSA Conference in San Francisco. He said the trick is in not tying your security and compliance needs to the infrastructure. “Otherwise once you change infrastructure, you have to relearn all those tools, all those skills,” he explained.

Raina said that companies need to tell customers they are agile enough to switch infrastructure should it better serve them, but that security will remain constant.

“Target and all these breaches have shown that regardless of how it happens, you’re still responsible at the end of the day for your customers’ safety,” he said.

Shrinking attack surface in multi-cloud nebula

He said that an added benefit to this approach is that it limits the entry points for attackers.

“On the security side, you’ve actually reduced your attack surface by not relying on specific point solutions. You’re creating a single policy that gets implemented regardless of the infrastructure,” he said.
