CLOUD

Can data really be fully protected in a cloud-driven world?

Data must be protected. Not just from stealthy thieves, but also from all the random accidents that can happen in this rough world. This becomes tricky when data moves to and from, or across, the cloud. Effective ways to protect and manage data are vital for cloud-driven businesses, according to Jaspreet Singh (pictured), founder and chief executive officer of Druva Software Pvt. Ltd.

“Cloud, for us, is not so much technology as a business model,” Singh said during Dell EMC World in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the conference, Singh spoke to host John Furrier (@furrier) and co-host Keith Townsend (@CTOAdvisor), of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile live-streaming studio, to talk about delivering reliable data services in the cloud, customer engagement and business value. (* Disclosure below.)

Managing a diversity of data

What customers care about when it comes to data protection is delivering a core service across the globe at a predictable cost. That plays into the power of the cloud, giving an economy of scale and allowing a company to deliver the same service anywhere in need, according to Druva.

Given the diversity of data, customers are left trying to figure out what their data management should look like. They want the data protected, but also managed from a governance and compliance standpoint. Druva helps them by building a bridge between the protection and management parts through the cloud, Druva explained.

The cloud does offer its own challenges, however. Any disruption will bring up new discussions that need to be solved, and the discussion around the cloud has the customer thinking about security and cost, he stated. There’s also a need for providers to prove the reliability of their services.

Because of the cloud disruption, companies are rethinking their data landscapes. As data is more exposed, data management becomes more important, Druva pointed out. Consolidating the various solutions to this problem to run under one pane of glass is the new priority.

“Its truly a data transformation,” Singh said.
