Google LLC is adding a new option for data center operators to connect to its cloud with the launch of its new Partner Interconnect service.
The service adds to the existing Cloud VPN and Dedicated Interconnect options, which provide connectivity over the public internet or a private connection, respectively.
Just like Dedicated Interconnect, which was announced in September, Partner Interconnect is also a private connection, but it links to Google’s cloud via the web giant’s partner’s connections. It also comes with lower bandwidth options, which could be useful for organizations that don’t require full 10 gigabit-per-second connectivity, Google product manager John Veizades said in a blog post.
“Partner Interconnect also allows organizations whose data centers are geographically distant from a Google Cloud region or Point of Presence (POP) to connect to GCP, using our partners’ connections,” Veizades said.
With Partner Interconnect, Google customers can connect to the company’s cloud at a data rate that meets their needs. Users can choose from a range of partial circuits, from 50 megabits per second all the way up to 10Gbps. In addition, users can choose which Google partner they’d like to connect with, including companies such as AT&T Inc., SoftBank Group Ltd. and Equinix Inc.
“Once connected to the GCP network, you have access to advanced networking technologies like GCP VPC, which seamlessly gives you a global reach to our distributed data centers across our backbone,” Veizades said.
Google will be making Partner Interconnect available in coming weeks and is providing more details of the service on its Cloud Interconnect page.
