Datrium Inc.’s introduction of its DVX 4.0 software in April was the firm’s third major release in less than a year, underscoring its continued commitment to a mantra of simplicity. The latest release provides full support for Oracle Real Application Clusters on a four-node vSphere cluster, as Datrium continues to bolster its position to provide open, converged infrastructure solutions in the hybrid cloud.
“We’re enabling customers to be able to virtualize more high-performance applications and rely on the Datrium platform to have the intelligence and simplicity behind the scenes to make sure things are going to run the way they need,” said Clint Wyckoff (pictured), senior global solutions engineer at Datrium.
Wyckoff spoke with Peter Burris (@plburris), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at theCUBE’s studio in Palo Alto, California, to discuss tools that make the interface with other public clouds easier, technology for full stack encryption, and staying attuned to the critical role of data in the enterprise. The April release followed the announcement of Cloud DVX for Amazon Web Services Inc. last November. The goal then was to sidestep the public cloud learning curve while allowing Datrium users to run jobs as needed in Amazon EC2 instances.
“An existing customer can go into their Datrium console, add an AWS subscription, click next, next, next and finish,” Wyckoff said. “It’s so simple that even an administrator who has no experience with AWS can go in and stand this up very easily.”
In addition to simplicity and ease-of-use, Datrium has focused on security. Blanket encryption has been built into the software, which is designed to protect data within the full scope of the infrastructure.
“It is encrypted across the entire stack, [during] use, over the wire in flight, and at rest,” Wyckoff explained. “That’s very different than the way that some of the more traditional folks do it.”
At the core of Datrium’s approach is a belief that customers will increasingly need tools to properly manage data wherever it may reside. “The data is the business,” Wyckoff said. “That is a very key foundational component that we continue to build upon inside the product.”
