EMC announced today it would locate global R&D operation in Cork, Ireland, extending the workforce of 1,900 employees the company has in the Irish city, the first step being taken into this direction in 2008 by EMC. The company informed on the new project, EMC Research Europe, in partnership with certain European universities, trying to address the ‘mass consumerisation of IT in the enterprise world’.

‘The key battle will be to manage the scale of the data, not just about the consumerisation of data but from the perspective of enterprises’ capacity, business continuity and resilience. Therein lies the difficulty in developing the technology going forward. EMC’s global R&D centres play a vital role in helping the company explore the impact of new technologies. We’re looking forward to the insights our researchers at the Cork centre and other offices in the region will bring the company in collaboration with university partners in Europe,’ said Jeff Nick, EMC senior vice-president and chief technology officer.

Last week we brought to your attention the security breach inside EMC’S security division, namely RSA, that happened three weeks ago. A week later, EMC announced the acquisition and integration within RSA of NetWitness, a network security software provider that will work closely with the RSA on identifying and combating security threats, malware and data leakage, under undisclosed terms. Once again, EMC proves that is not resting on its oars and is fully committed to offering high quality services.

“Adding to NetWitness’s edge in its space are the company’s impressive analytic and visualization capabilities, which have recently expanded with malware analysis and insight that better informs security management” said EMA security analyst Scott Crawford.

But EMC is not involved in B2B transactions only, but in B2C transactions as well. One of EMC’s adopted offsprings that joined the family in 2007, Mozy, launched last week a cloud storage app for iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone devices, promising an app for the Android OS in the next couple of weeks.
