McAfee LLC today announced it’s adding support for the new Amazon Detective cloud security service as part of its McAfee MVISION Cloud for Amazon Web Services to provide customers with better incident detection and remediation.

Amazon Detective, announced by Amazon Web Services Inc. at the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas running this week, uses artificial intelligence to booster alert systems by providing details about the size and scope of security as well as helping to reconstruct methods and targets of attacks.

The new Amazon service automatically collects log data from AWS resources and uses machine learning, statistical analysis and graph theory to help customers visualize and conduct faster and more efficient security investigations.

McAfee customers obtain support for Amazon Detective from day one, allowing customers to leverage a trusted cloud platform that has achieved AWS Security Competency status and received AWS Well-Architected designation for its Cloud Access Security Broker.

Support will include full integration with Amazon Detective, allowing for the detection of configuration issues or other cloud risks using MVISION Cloud along with the ability to move more seamlessly into the investigation phase with the Amazon service.

Architectural freedom of choice is also supported including configuration audit and cloud security posture management for diverse cloud workloads. McAfee MVISION Cloud users with Amazon Detective support will be able to detect incidents on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, Amazon Elastic Container Service and Amazon EKS.

At a session at AWS re:Invent, Sekhar Sarukkai, a McAfee vice president of engineering and Thyaga Vasudevan, senior director of product management at McAfee, discussed the new integration along with what they described as a new era of cloud-related threats. In addition, they discussed the shared-responsibility model and the need for security tools that keep up with infrastructure as service-native issues, including the ability to audit infrastructure-as-a-service deployments continuously for initial misconfiguration and configuration drift over time.
