HPE, AMD step up partnership to accelerate time-to-value across hybrid cloud

Accelerating time-to-value across a hybrid infrastructure that meets the needs of increasingly demanding workloads and applications is, without a doubt, the goal of every company. It is also the reason behind the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. and the Advanced Micro Devices Inc. partnership, which has intensified even more recently.

With the introduction of AMD’s latest 3rd Gen EPYC processors, HPE has doubled its AMD-based ProLiant portfolio and even extended it to its Apollo systems. And with this, it has achieved a series of world records across a variety of workloads leading to real results, according to George Hope (pictured, left), worldwide head of partner sales at HPE.

“The 3rd-Generation AMD EPYC processor delivers strong performance, expand ability and the security our customers need as they continue their digital transformation,” he said. “We can deliver better outcomes and lay a strong foundation for profitable partner growth, and we’re incorporating unmatched workload optimization and intelligent automation with 360° security and, of course, with that as-a-service experience.”

Hope; Terry Richardson (pictured, middle), North America channel chief at AMD; and Peter Chan (pictured, right), head of EMEA channel sales at AMD, spoke with Lisa Martin, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the HPE Discover event. They discussed how HPE and AMD work together to provide quick return to customers, as well as how this alliance powers solutions for the hybrid cloud environment. (* Disclosure below.)

Crafting solutions together to enable better performance

As customers increasingly demand to do more with less, AMD and HPE have focused on developing solutions that increase capabilities and provide faster return on investment, according to Richardson. For example, AMD has a tool on its website called the AMD EPYC Server Virtualization TCO Estimation Tool, which allows anyone to calculate the savings that can be achieved using the new processor.

“It’s all about close collaboration,” Richardson explained. “We work very closely with our counterparts at HPE just to make sure we understand partner and customer requirements, and then we work to craft solutions together from engaging technically to collaborating on when products will be shipped and delivered and also just what we are doing to identify the next key workloads and projects that are going to be engaged in together.”

The alliance is also responsible for the underlying value technology that supports the development of hybrid cloud solutions, a big bet of HPE. In this environment, HPE GreenLake, which provides a consistent operating model with visibility and control across public clouds and on-premises systems, is gaining momentum.

“With AMD-based systems, customers get the benefit of performance, security and fast time-to-value whether deployed on-prem and cloud on a hybrid model,” Chan concluded.
