D2iQ aims to make it easier to build and run Kubernetes apps at large scale
Kubernetes platform provider D2iQ Inc. today announced version 2.0 of its platform, featuring enhancements it says will make it easier for enterprises to run the open-source container orchestration software at scale.
D2iQ, formerly known as Mesosphere Inc., sells an open-source, pure-play Kubernetes platform that enterprises can use to run cloud-native applications without fear of vendor lock-in. It can run in the cloud, on-premises, in air-gapped environments or at the network edge.
Kubernetes is the most popular tool for orchestrating containers that host the components of modern software applications that can run on any computer.
D2iQ Kubernetes Platform 2.0 is said to be underpinned by the newly adopted Cloud Native Computing Foundation Cluster application programming interface. The API is aimed at making life easier for organizations that want to deploy, manage and scale Kubernetes workloads in so-called Day 2 production environments, meaning at full scale.
With the move to CAPI, DKP 2.0 simplifies declarative infrastructure management using GitOps. Essentially, it makes it possible to manage the underlying information technology infrastructure as code, meaning computer servers and storage can be managed and provisioned through machine-readable files rather than physical hardware configuration tools. That helps automate many formerly manual processes that were required to keep Kubernetes deployments up and running.
The idea with this is DKP 2.0 makes it easier to deploy new applications and manage them throughout their lifecycle, D2iQ says.
To that end, D2iQ has added new Autoscaling features to provide users with a simpler way of taking advantage of the inherent scalability of cloud-native apps. It’s now possible to automate the growth and shrinkage capacity of the underlying infrastructure based on the needs of each workload, the company explained. That not only means uninterrupted application availability, but it also reduces the burden on operations teams to monitor system resources constantly.
Finally, DKP 2.0 makes it simple to provision air-gapped clusters for security reasons in just one step, using the command-line interface. Air-gapped clusters can be provisioned in the cloud or on-premises, providing organizations in government, healthcare, manufacturing, finance and other secure and regulated industries with a way to build agile, cloud-native applications in a more secure environment.
D2iQ co-founder and Chief Executive Tobi Knaup said DKP 2.0 is the result of his company’s focus on helping customers maximize digital agility and thrive in a rapidly changing and extremely competitive market.

D2iQ said DKP 2.0 can be downloaded from its website, while existing customers will be updated automatically.
