Not Happy with Android Tablet OEMs are Looking to Windows 8

As much as non-iPad tablet makers might like the world to believe that Android ice cream based tablets are selling like hotcakes and looking to give Apple a headache in the tablet market just as they have in the smartphone market, the truth is more of the opposite.

Whether it is RIM slashing sales expectations of the PlayBook from a couple of million to around the 800,000 mark or Acer cutting sales forecasts, the fact is that Android tablets are failing in a market dominated by Apple’s iPad. So much so that as told to DigiTimes by industry sources, many of the OEMs making tablets are looking to Windows 8 to be more effective competition to the iPad.

Most non-iPad table PC vendors have been frustrated recently due to lower-than-expected performance of their tablet PCs built with ARM/Android. While attributing the slow sales to the instability of Android and the strong brand image that Apple enjoys, some vendors have also begun mulling new strategies to strengthen their competitiveness.

This could explain why there are persistent rumors that we will see a Windows 8 tablet this fall. The market is looking for a viable competitor to the iPad, and Android just isn’t making the grade.
