HPE, VMware partnership facilitates app and data modernization for global customers

During this week’s HPE Discover event in Las Vegas, VMware Inc. was recognized as HPE’s 2022 Global Technology Partner of the Year. It was a testament to more than 20 years of a collaboration that spanned numerous digital transformations and has driven a new era of multicloud services.

“Our job is to bridge the cloud locations so the customer doesn’t have to,” said Scott Wiest (pictured, left), North America chief technologist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. “Control is what every customer wants. They want the right workload, at the right place, at the right time, at the right economic point, with the right capability. That’s in our mission together.”

Wiest spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and John Furrier during theCUBE’s exclusive coverage of the HPE Discover event. He was joined by David McGraw (pictured, right), vice president at VMware, and they discussed key elements of the partnership and a need for common cloud solutions. (* Disclosure below.)

Delivering a consistent experience

Partnership between the two companies has enabled the delivery of key HPE technologies, such as HPE GreenLake, to VMware’s global cloud suppliers. HPE recently unveiled platform enhancements and new cloud services for HPE GreenLake, which facilitates cross-platform application and data modernization.

“Customers can have a consistent experience on-premises running VMware cloud, running with HPE GreenLake and various VMware cloud suppliers around the world,” McGraw said. “There’s constant interaction and integration with the HPE engineering team and the VMware team to make sure we bring those solutions to market with full capability.”

IT customers are often confronted with the challenge of inconsistent infrastructure, where database and security constructs may vary widely by cloud. The HPE Discover event provided an opportunity for key cloud providers to collaborate on common solutions, which was an important part of the conference agenda according to Wiest.

“The hyperscalers are all here at the conference,” Wiest noted. “Customers need to run tier-zero, tier-one, tier-three applications when it really comes down to it, and we need to create that unified model together. We’re working on deep integration with all of our partners to make sure the customer doesn’t have to.”
