FireEye veterans launch threat intelligence firm Silent Push with $10M in funding
Threat intelligence startup Silent Push Inc. today officially launched and announced it has raised $10 million in seed funding from Ten Eleven Ventures LLC.
Co-founded by former FireEye Inc. Vice President Ken Bagnall and FireEye Research Labs Director John Jensen, Silent Push has been designed to operate a standalone solution or integrate into existing security tools through an application programming interface.
Silent Push says it takes a unique approach to identifying emerging cyberthreats by providing a comprehensive view of global internet-facing infrastructure and applying deep analysis to reveal new attacker infrastructure and campaigns. Customers can understand emerging threats before launch, be prepared and proactively solve problems, it says.
The company argues that as cyberthreats continue to grow, organizations have traditionally focused on detecting threats by using intelligence feeds with indicators of compromise. Silent Push’s approach goes beyond traditional IOCs by providing the capability to understand what attackers are doing before an attack and delivering a detailed analysis of the tactics, techniques and procedures employed by threat actors.
The information gathered provides insights into the capabilities and targets of attackers, with Silent Push acting like a threat radar, allowing organizations to see what tactics, techniques and procedures or TTPs attackers are using.
“Our unique ability lies in knowing the attacker’s TTPs — what they are doing to prepare for an attack or campaign,” said Chief Executive Bagnall. “A good example of this is where we recently observed attackers using legitimate websites to redirect to threat actor-controlled intermediate ‘cushion servers,’ which leads to phishing URLs with fake Microsoft logins.”
Although officially launching only today, Silent Push already has more than 500 organizations using its free community edition, including commercial and government organizations and security researchers. The company’s paid Enterprise edition has been adopted by security teams at some of the world’s largest organizations, including a top-five auto manufacturer, a top-five global consultancy and a global top-10 bank.
Silent Push customers can use the solution via the Silent Push browser interface or tightly integrate it into existing security solutions using the Silent Push API, enriching any security event and replacing multiple existing products.
