Mitigating migration fear with automation: The unique partnership of UiPath and SAP

Fresh off the keynote stage at UiPath FORWARD VI, co-CEO Robert Enslin joins theCUBE to share more details from the Day 1 conference announcements.

“We took in the last three to four months the focus on, we will demo how generative artificial intelligence fits into the UiPath story. We’re not going to [just] make announcements — we’re going to show investors, and at our earnings calls, we will demonstrate the value of including Gen AI in the product, making our product better so that customers receive more value upfront,” said Enslin.

These efforts have culminated in this week’s launch of Autopilot, aimed at democratizing Gen AI for every business worker. The specialized automation capabilities set out to simplify nearly any business task using natural language. UiPath claims Autopilot is so powerful it will be able to transform paper documents into business applications within a single click.

“We explained our specialized AI, how UiPath was built. Robotic processing automation was built on AI from the very beginning — computer vision, understanding documents and screens, how we acquired a communication mining product that had [master of neurolinguistic programming] built into it. And before ChatGPT, we had all of this,” Enslin explained.

He spoke with hosts Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin during our exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. Enslin was joined by Lloyd Adams, president of North America at SAP SE. They discussed the unique AI-related perks of the UiPath-SAP partnership, the importance of their respective investments in AI initiatives, and what it all means for end users. (* Disclosure below.)

Mitigating migration fear with automation

SAP is all in on Gen AI when it comes to UiPath’s efforts in supporting its partner ecosystem. As Vellante pointed out in the interview, this specific partnership took an uncommon approach whereas many other software companies could’ve acquired an inferior AI product and bundled it into their portfolio.

“We believe that the pie can always get bigger for all involved if you’re partnering with the right folks, right? And that’s what we feel we’ve done with UiPath. As I mentioned in the keynote this morning, why we’re personally excited about this… it was a complete no-brainer to complement what we already brought, all the know-how and the data and the line of business context, now with that extra automation capability,” Adams said.

The customer-centric approach to the UiPath-SAP team-up was evident throughout the Day 1 keynote presentations, as host Lisa Martin pointed out during theCUBE’s kickoff segment. Customer feedback has been crucial for both companies in recent years, given the market shifts that have taken place across a global pandemic and into the era of Gen AI.

“It’s been overwhelming, to be honest. We’ve had customers that just want to know how they can embrace it faster,” said Enslin. “Many SAP customers are going through the migration to rise, it’s on the move and they’re starting to see the value.”

The joint efforts have combined the work of large engineering teams from UiPath and SAP to deliver a solution accelerator from UiPath and a solution map from SAP, designing together a future for their customers.

“That’s really the mandate we hear from all of our SAP customers that need to move to the cloud, many of whom are coming from older legacy products, some of which have been highly customized. The beauty of this partnership with UiPath is it mitigates the fear and worry a lot of them have around, ‘Yes, I know I need to move, but boy, that’s gonna be timely and expensive and arduous.’ And this eliminates a lot of that,” Adams said.
