GoLinks debuts AI-powered search engine and employee directory

Startup GoLinks Inc. today introduced two new products, an enterprise search engine and an employee directory tool, that use artificial intelligence to help users find information faster.

San Jose, California-based GoLinks is backed by more than $27 million in funding from Y Combinator, Mayfield and other investors. Its flagship product is a URL shortener for knowledge workers. The service can shorten a lengthy link to a single word with the prefix “go/”: A marketing team, for example, could replace the link to an important document with “go/marketingplan” to ease file sharing.

The first product GoLinks launched today is a search engine dubbed GoSearch. It allows workers to centrally search for information across Google Workspace, Salesforce and about 100 other enterprise applications. Under the hood, the tool is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model.

GoSearch can take standard text-based search queries as input. Alternatively, users may upload an image or a link to a cloud-hosted file and have the search engine automatically surface related records from their company’s internal applications. GoSearch is capable of retrieving documents, to-do lists, code repositories and other items.

When the answer to a user’s question isn’t readily available, the tool highlights colleagues who are likely to have the necessary information. Workers can address knowledge gaps by writing their own answers to commonly run search queries. They can also upload business records such as spreadsheets to expand the pool of information available to GoSearch.

Customers with more advanced requirements have the option to customize the tool for specific use cases. A startup, for example, might create a version of GoSearch optimized to help its developers navigate code documentation. It could customize the tool to only display information from the software team’s files in search results and skip records created by business units.

GoLinks debuted GoSearch today alongside a second product called GoProfiles. The latter tool allows companies to automatically generate an employee directory based on worker data in their human resources applications. When the data in those applications is updated, GoProfiles syncs the changes to the employee directory without the need for manual input.

A built-in AI search feature allows users to find colleagues and ask questions about their company’s organizational structure. Managers, in turn, have access to analytics dashboards that visualize workforce data such as headcount growth metrics.

Both GoProfiles and GoSearch ship with built-in cybersecurity controls. The former tool enables administrators to limit which manager can access what analytics dashboard. GoSearch, meanwhile, is compliant with the SOC 2 Type 2 cybersecurity standard and provides features for ensuring sensitive business data doesn’t appear to unauthorized users in search results.
