From exploration to action: Trends and best practices in AI adoption

When a breakthrough technology matures, companies compete to carve their niche through innovation. Today’s example is generative artificial intelligence, and names such as OpenAI and Google LLC are staking their claim as global frontrunners.

Expanding partnerships is crucial to driving AI’s advancement alongside accelerated research and development. Google is doing so through an active ecosystem with partners such as Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.

“We are a premium partner with Google Cloud, and we have built deep capabilities with talent, impeccable delivery and a strong track record,” said Nidhi Srivastava (pictured, left), vice president and global head of AI.Cloud offerings at TCS. “Most importantly, with the generative AI, we’ve done a really good pivot in terms of building up capabilities — and with Gemini, we have been a launch partner.”

Srivastava and Krishna Mohan (right), vice president and deputy head of the AI.Cloud Unit at TCS, spoke with theCUBE Research analysts Savannah Peterson and Rob Strechay at Google Cloud Next 2024, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They highlighted key insights on the current state and future trajectory of AI adoption across various industries. (* Disclosure below.)

Gen AI trends – innovating at the pace of AI

With AI and its underlying fields setting the pace, a peninsular, siloed approach is frictional to today’s innovation demand. Google fosters a collaborative culture, allowing TCS to showcase novel solutions, particularly in gen AI. The tie-in exemplifies the synergy between technology giants and industry leaders, according to Srivastava.

More importantly, AI theory and experimentation are giving way to practical implementation. Companies are searching for pragmatic blueprints to harness the tech in their operations, taking their ideas from proof of concepts to real-world applications at scale. TCS helps its customers navigate this journey, focusing on identifying high-impact use cases and achieving tangible business outcomes, according to Mohan.

“Every customer has thousands of use cases across the business functions that they’ve developed,” he said. “Now we see [a] turning point where they’re focusing on experimentation. How do I take them now to production? How do I scale it at an enterprise level? How do I measure the value? I think that’s the real adoption phase, especially for the customers that we saw with Fortune 2000.”

Certain trends are rising to the fore as cross-sector AI adoption takes hold. The first is developer productivity, with organizations leveraging AI to streamline software development processes and enhance overall efficiency, according to Srivastava.

“The point over here is that being able to use AI to reimagine the software development lifecycle, that’s the use case that has come to the top in terms of interest from our clients in terms of interest within TCS, because it leads to a lot of productivity and overall developer satisfaction,” she said. “The other two are on sales and marketing personalized campaigns — so [teams] and customer agents. Those are the top use cases.”

Also, personalized sales and marketing campaigns, along with customer service optimization, has gained traction as organizations prioritized customer-centric strategies. Financial services, life sciences, healthcare, retail and consumer packaged goods are experiencing accelerated AI adoption, driven by a convergence of business and technology objectives, both guests agree.
