Cyber resilience startup Semperis raises $125M for enterprise identity protection expansion

Enterprise identity protection and cyber resilience startup Semperis Ltd. today announced that it has secured $125 million in growth financing, which will allow it to invest in product innovation and support its expanding global customer base.

Founded in 2014, Semperis offers cybersecurity services that specialize in protecting Active Directory and Azure AD from cyberthreats, as well as offering support for Entra ID and Okta Inc. Active Directory from Microsoft Corp. allows a company to manage centrally which employees can access what business applications and how, while Azure AD is the cloud-based version of the software.

The company provides hybrid AD threat detection and response that continuously monitors AD environments to detect malicious changes. In the event that an attacker gets through the door, Semperis also offers comprehensive disaster recovery solutions to ensure rapid restoration of AD services in the event of a cyberattack or system failure.

To support compliance and auditing processes, Semperis offers users detailed logs and reports on AD activities to assist with regulatory requirements and internal security policies. The company’s privileged access management solutions manage and secure privileged accounts, reducing the risk of insider threats.

Semperis protects more than 100 million identities from cyberattacks, data breaches and operation errors. Notable customers include Lenovo Group Ltd., Starbucks Corp., Independence Blue Cross LLC, United Airlines Holdings Inc., Hertz Global Holdings Inc., Altice USA Inc. and the Michigan state government.

The new growth financing came from JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Hercules Capital Inc. and follows a traditional Series C venture capital raise of $200 million in 2022.

“As CISOs shift their focus toward securing and building resiliency into their identity infrastructure, we see enormous demand for specialized hybrid AD and Entra ID protection,” said Jeff Bray, chief financial officer of Semperis. “Semperis, with new support from J.P. Morgan and Hercules Capital, and our existing team of … backers, KKR, Insight Partners, Ten Eleven Partners, Paladin, Advocate Health and others, will continue to drive innovations to disrupt cyberattacks.”

Along with the growth financing, Semperis also announced three new appointments to its C-cuite. Joining the company are new CFO Bray, who had previously led finance teams at Rapid7 Inc., Imprivata Inc. and Invicti Security Inc. New Chief Revenue Officer Mike DeGaetano joins Semperis after spending time at Zscaler Inc., Forcepoint LLC and Broadcom Inc. New Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary Annabel Lewis previously worked at Trustwave Holdings Inc., Singtel Telecommunications Ltd. and Onapsis Inc.
