Accelerating AI adoption: How HPC solutions are driving unprecedented GPU efficiency and scalability

High-performance computing serves as the essential backbone for artificial intelligence, enabling complex model training and significantly accelerating AI adoption.

Recognizing the critical synergy between HPC and AI for efficiently scaling and deploying applications, DataDirect Networks Inc. leverages its expertise in high-performance computing to drive innovation, according to Jyothi Swaroop (pictured), chief marketing officer of DDN.

Jyothi Swaroop, chief marketing officer of DataDirect Networks Inc. (aka DDN), talks to theCUBE during SC24 about how HPC enhances AI adoption, and the critical role that DDN undertakes in the realization of this objective.

DDN’s Jyothi Swaroop talks to theCUBE about HPC being an engine for AI adoption.

“Our roots are obviously in high-performance computing, which is in the data center,” he said. “With AI, there’s not enough power in the world to power all the AI that the world requires. What we do at DDN is we try to get your GPUs to perform 10X more efficiently. That means they consume a lot less power. For example, at xAI, which is the largest AI super factory in the world, we’ve been able to build 100,000 GPUs and growing to 200,000 in short order. We’ve been able to help them accelerate their AI outcomes within that data center.”

Swaroop spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier and Savannah Peterson at SC24, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They explored how HPC drives AI adoption and highlighted the pivotal role DDN plays in achieving this goal. (* Disclosure below.)

Data intelligence as a stepping stone to AI adoption

Data intelligence plays a critical role in accelerating AI adoption by ensuring that AI systems are built on a solid foundation of high-quality, relevant and actionable data. As a result, DDN has set the ball rolling as a leading data intelligence platform, according to Swaroop.

“DDN has the data intelligence platform,” he said. “Artificial intelligence has synthetic data, but that’s still data. It’s still data intelligence in our opinion. End of the day, without data, there is no artificial intelligence or organic or real intelligence. All the massive billions of dollars that are being pumped into AI is about how it can accelerate my business outcomes.

As AI technologies advance, the demand for robust HPC solutions continues to skyrocket. This is because HPC provides the backbone for handling the computational intensity of AI, with the partnership between DDN and Nvidia Corp. making this a reality, according to Swaroop.

“Our value proposition at DDN is to connect the dots from the data center all the way up to your LLMs, inferences and your microservices … accelerate that 10X,” he said. “There is a scarcity of GPUs. We’ve tried and tested the Nvidia infrastructure and ecosystem for a very long time. In fact, Nvidia uses us. There is no bigger testament than Nvidia using us in their SuperPODs, in their biggest AI factories that they’re building. DDN is the de facto standard data intelligence platform for them.”
