Who’s Calling? Big Data, Social Graph Fill in the Gaps at YouMail

It amazes me all the time how big data and the broadening social graph are being utilized to reform business models and discover new products and services.  Couple these two trends with mobility and proprietary technology, and you get the updated Visual Caller ID, courtesy of Youmail.  The mobile applications and services provider introduces an innovative product to reinvent how we communicate and prioritize voice mails and respond to missed calls from unidentified callers.

YouMail CEO Alex Quilici “Visual voicemail has been a misnomer. YouMail is the first voicemail service to visually identify who that missed call or voicemail was really from. This makes it even faster to get through one’s voicemail and avoid guesswork, while decreasing lost productivity and vulnerability to scams.”

Big data, social graphs and mobility are already intertwined.  Each holds a strong grip on their respective market and joining them together creates an innovative feature that helps mobile phone users identify owners of unknown numbers.  So how does this visual caller ID works? This new feature extended from Youmail’s visual voicemail leverages big data gathered from over 2 million users, social network connections including Facebook, and its own internal-use technology. This could possibly be the most efficient way to manage your missed calls.  The service will also be giving the users the power to pinpoint which ones are really important and need immediate attention versus scams and promotional calls.

Youmail’s visual voicemail and caller ID is just an example of how mobility, and the industry as a whole, is trying to monetize big data, and how it drives next-level enterprise solutions.  The massive pool of information is the factor that ushers business intelligence onto the mainstream of social media and many other markets.  Along with this is data analysis gaining traction from the biggest brands existing.
