Dell Adds Former White House Chief of Staff, Others to Board

Hardware giant Dell is the latest tech company that has added new members to its board of directors. According to a newly released announcement, Janet Clark, Laura Conigliaro and Ken Duberstein are the three execs that are joining the board.

“Janet Clark, Laura Conigliaro and Ken Duberstein collectively bring extensive experience in finance, accounting, IT industry insight, public policy, enterprise solutions strategy and management, which will benefit Dell as we continue to expand our role as a technology solutions company,” said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO.

Clark will be sitting in the board’s audit committee, and currently serves as EVP, treasurer and CFO of Marathon Oil. She served as chief financial officer of several other major corporations as well in addition to other roles, and holds an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Conigliaro served as  a partner at Goldman Sachs until recently, and was the co-chief of the firm’s Americas equity research unit and head of its technology investment research unit.  She also has experience in covering the enterprise hardware market, and will be serving in the board’s finance committee.  The third and final new director joining the company is Duberstein, chairman and CEO of The Duberstein Group. The head of the strategic planning firm and former White House Chief of Staff is becoming a part of Dell’s governance and nominating committee.

A couple of other companies also expanded their boards recently, following some fresh funding. Andreessen Horowitz General Partner Scott Weiss joined the board of Platfora, an emerging  Hadoop distributor that secured $5.7 million in venture capital.  The company was founded by Ben Werther, who was the former  product head of Greenplum. EMC acquired the data warehousing vendor last year.
