AuthZed introduces AuthZed Cloud to simplify enterprise authorization

Permissions management startup AuthZed Inc. today announced the launch of AuthZed Cloud, a self-service platform that lets businesses run authorization infrastructure like the rest of their cloud infrastructure — provisioned, managed and scaled on-demand.

AuthZed Cloud has been designed to remove the need to build and maintain custom authorization stacks, allowing engineering teams to focus on building products, not permissions systems.

The new offering has been built to address the issue wherein many organizations are forced to rely on custom-built authorization logic for each application, leading to duplicated effort, inconsistent policies and fragmented access control. AuthZed argues that the patchwork approach slows down development and increases the risk of misconfigurations as sensitive permissions are repeatedly reimplemented.

AuthZed Cloud aims to solve those issues by centralizing authorization at the infrastructure layer. That provides a single system of record that can serve all applications and artificial intelligence systems, enabling secure, scalable growth across the business.

“With AuthZed Cloud, companies of any size can manage authorization just like their cloud services — self-serve, scalable and integrated at the infrastructure layer,” said Chief Executive Jake Moshenko. “We simplify permissions so businesses can grow faster without being bogged down by policies and custom authorization logic for every application.”

AuthZed Cloud offers the same core benefits as the company’s existing AuthZed Dedicated solution — centralized permissions, simplified access control and robust security — without the extra expense of being fully single-tenant. AuthZed Cloud doesn’t support advanced isolation and configuration features such as individualized cloud accounts, private networking and globally deployed, multi-region permissions systems. But customers still receive the same isolated deployments and dedicated storage, minimizing “noisy neighbor” downsides while maximizing cost efficiency.

Early users of the service speak highly of it, the company said. Lita Cho, chief technology officer at Moment Technologies Inc., said that “AuthZed Cloud delivers the power and reliability of Dedicated at a startup-friendly price, without the hassle of running SpiceDB” and that it “lets me focus on building our modern docs platform, confident our authorization is secure, fast, and future-proof.”

AuthZed was previously in the news in June when it announced new support for retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI systems, expanding its authorization infrastructure to address security challenges in enterprise AI.

The company is a venture capital-backed. It has raised $15.9 million over two rounds, including a round of $12 million in April 2024. Investors in the company include General Catalyst Group Management, Work-Bench Ventures Management, Y Combinator Management and Amplify Partners LP.
