The challenge of meeting artificial intelligence mandates, coupled with a push to build workloads that can manage traditional applications alongside containers and edge computing, is putting significant pressure on IT organizations these days. This challenge has led to the emergence of private cloud as a key solution for supporting a rapidly changing IT landscape.
The movement toward private cloud has placed a stronger spotlight on the role of traditional infrastructure to provide flexibility and smarter resource utilization. This is where Dell Technologies Inc. and other major players in the enterprise IT world are providing advanced solutions.
“All the hype is in AI these days, but we can’t forget that there’s still a lot of businesses running on traditional servers and storage infrastructure,” said Dave Vellante, executive analyst at theCUBE Research. “Because so much investment is going into AI, it’s important for customers to optimize their server and storage costs, pick the right architectures, virtualize resources, automate where possible and focus on cyber resilience.”
TheCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, will explore how disaggregated infrastructure and a modern private cloud can transform an IT strategy during an exclusive broadcast of the “5 Steps to a Smarter Private Cloud” event on September 24 at 10:00 a.m. CT. Executives from Dell, Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. will discuss how to transition between clouds effortlessly, scale resources independently and avoid the pitfalls of vendor lock-in while achieving greater efficiency and resilience for critical workloads. Here’s what’s in store for theCUBE’s broadcast of the “5 Steps to a Smarter Private Cloud” event:
Dell launched its private cloud offering in May, with a focus on providing the flexibility of an open software ecosystem. Organizations can access validated blueprints, deployable across any available Dell servers and storage, from software partners such as Broadcom Inc., Nutanix Inc. and Red Hat Inc. to provision the private cloud stack.
Dell has also focused on accelerating private cloud, edge and AI innovation through its launch of the Dell Automation Platform last month. The goal is to provide a platform-based, intuitive experience that can centralize delivery and management of solutions across AI, private cloud and edge environments.
By integrating core capabilities such as secure zero-touch onboarding and AIOps, with automation up and down the stack, Dell aims to streamline workflows and accelerate time-to-value for AI. The company highlights the importance of providing the necessary infrastructure that can support private cloud initiatives.
“All the work being done in private cloud right now is growing into enabling the operational sanity and comfort levels in the AI world, that’s pre-agentic,” said John Furrier, executive analyst at theCUBE Research. “If you don’t get the platform right, you’re pretty much going to be dead in the water.”
Dell’s announcements during its conference in May underscored its intent to build out AI offerings for on-premises deployment. Organizations are realizing that on-premises infrastructure can be more efficient for AI inference at scale, providing more cost-effectiveness and operational flexibility.
To facilitate this vision, Dell announced new servers in its PowerEdge portfolio that support AMD’s graphics processing units with a new generation of memory technology for high-performance computing applications. Enhancements for Dell’s PowerEdge servers also featured the integration of Nvidia Corp. GPUs for faster model training.
The company has also developed new offerings in its storage lineup that can provide reliable access to quality data. Dell has added more intelligence into the PowerStore platform to improve responsiveness and reduce latency. The goal is to emphasize simplicity and adaptability for deployment of AI workloads on-premises, according to Travis Vigil, senior vice president of product management at Dell.
“Customers are really looking for a solution that allows them to utilize storage for generative AI and provide them flexibility and choice for their private cloud,” Vigil said in an interview with theCUBE. “From our perspective, it’s a pivotal moment in IT, and customers are using this rise of generative AI to reevaluate their data strategy.”
