Retail-focused vision artificial intelligence startup Everseen Ltd. is switching its focus from action to insights with the launch of a prototype “conversational intelligence layer.”
It’s called Everact, and it’s designed to work with the company’s existing Evercheck and Evershelf AI tools to enable retailers to increase their revenues through enhanced loss prevention. Store managers will be able to obtain more precise insights about their retail operations simply by asking Everact questions in natural language.
The startup’s Evercheck platform has already been deployed at thousands of retail outlets in globally. It’s an AI-enabled monitoring system that’s designed to reduce retail shrink by preventing theft and mistakes at checkouts. It does this by detecting unscanned items and other loss-related behaviors. The system provides real-time alerts to shoppers and store associates and aims to improve operational efficiency at both self-checkout and staffed kiosks.
Meanwhile, Evershelf is designed to prevent losses at the shelf. It monitors high-value aisles in retail stores to detect shoplifting in real time, discreetly analyzing the behavior of shoppers so it can alert staff to anyone who’s acting suspiciously.
Everseen’s AI loss prevention solutions have already been installed at more than 140,000 checkouts across the U.S., Europe and its home nation Ireland, where they capture about 15 million customer interactions each day. While the systems are designed to alert stores in real-time, the video they generate can also provide dozens of other insights to inform retail operations.
The challenge for Everseen’s customers has always been to extract those insights from the petabytes of video they generate each day, but now they no longer have to worry about it. Built on an agentic AI foundation, Everact is designed to provide instant answers to specific questions store managers have, enabling them to interact directly with the data in their videos.
Instead of digging into their video databases by themselves or trying to glean insights from various reports, store managers can simply tell Everact to “show me the videos of the last five non-scan alerts in this store,” or ask it questions such as, “Where did loss spike yesterday after 6p.m.?” and get immediate responses. According to Everseen Chief Executive Joe White, Everact allows store managers and executives to “speak directly to their data to uncover the root cause of an issue and instantly identify the best operational response.”
White said Everact is currently an advanced prototype, but the company is actively looking for customers that are willing to help test the platform and provide feedback. It’ll find early adopters from its existing customer base, where it’s looking for forward-thinking retailers and brands with “active innovation or AI transformation mandates.”
Selected partners will be able to deploy Everact in the second quarter, and as part of the feedback process they’ll gain direct access to Everseen’s product, engineering and AI research teams and influence the platform’s development.
