Samsung VP Latest to Jump Ship

There have been a few notable executive-level changes recently, the latest being Samsung’s vice president of consumer and enterprise services, Gavin Kim. He’s switching over to Microsoft, where he now serves as the general manager of its Windows Phone unit according to an AllThingsD report.

“I will be responsible to help set the future direction for the Windows Phone platform and to accelerate Microsoft’s trajectory to win the hearts and minds of consumers, carriers, device manufacturers, developers and partners,” Kim said.

A few other high-level executive also left the U.S subsidiary of the phonemaker in the past week, namely spokesman Kim Titus.

Samsung is one of the ‘hot’ companies in the mobile industry, considering that it has exceeded Apple in revenue and the company’s devices account for a sizable chunk of the Android handsets on the market. Nevertheless, Samsung has been, and is still facing legal threats posed by Apple (as well as Microsoft) for several alleged patent infringements concerning platform and product design. In the case of Microsoft, there have been speculations that the software giant ‘intimidated’ Samsung into entering a licensing agreement as a part of an effort to monetize the competing Android platform, an approach that has extended to a number of other smaller manufacturers as well.

The frequency of the executive-level within Samsung is certainly notable, though it seems to stretch beyond Samsung, affecting the rest of the tech industry as well.

Earlier today we learned that Apple Vice President of Global Security John Theriault is no longer working for the company – the circumstances of his departure are still debatable.  It’s speculated that he has been dismissed from the company due to the failure of an internal investigation that managed to get Apple some heat over its policies. Not too long before this news, HP CTO Phil McKinney resigned amidst company controversy as well.
