Dell Boosts Services Portfolio with Clerity Buy

Technology manufacturer Dell has already shared its intentions of pulling away from its consumer businesses, specifically its PC unit, instead re-focusing on the enterprise and the cloud. The reasons are quite clear – it has the likes of Apple to compete with, and selling data center equipment is considerably more profitable than relatively low-margin PC sales.

And therein lies the opportunity. Enterprises are now facing a need to upgrade their legacy infrastructure, but first they need to find a way to migrate their apps and data, and Dell is hoping to capitalize on this as well.

Today the company acquired Clerity, a provider of migration and re-hosting solutions for clients still relying on mainframes and dated hardware. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Dell will be integrating Clerity’s portfolio directly into its own. Here’s a broader explanation of what the firm does:

“Clerity’s unique re-hosting solution makes it easier for customers to move applications off legacy computing architectures into the new IT environment of their choice. By automating this approach to IT modernization through its UniKix™ offering, Clerity helps customers minimize the need to retest systems and retrain IT personnel–which results in overall cost and time savings.”

Last month Dell had another similar update: it partnered up with Falconstor to provide the basis for a rebranded migration service . The data protection company’s CEO stopped by The Cube later that month to discuss his vision in this area, and gave us some of the details behind Dell’s motives for this partnership.

And it seems Dell is on quite the shopping spree as it ramps up efforts around diversifying its services line up, having acquired Wyse just yesterday and the announcement of new virtual desktop appliances to help enterprises setup the appropriate on-premise infrastructure, or leverage a hosted service.
