Will You Be Interested In An Xbox TV or A Wii Mini?

Rumor has it, Microsoft is working on an Xbox set top box slated for 2013.  Now, is there any truth to this?  Plausible.

Aptly dubbed as the Xbox TV, according to the Verge’s unnamed sources familiar with the plan, Microsoft is planning a low cost alternative to the Xbox 360 that would offer the same entertainment and some gaming experience.  The set top box will be unveiled sometime in 2013 with the official launch coming before the holiday season.

When reached for a comment, Microsoft neither confirmed or denied the rumor, simply stating that they are always open to bringing something new to consumers.

“Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention.”

Xbox TV is said to be a part of something even bigger that Microsoft is planning for the future of their gaming console.  It’s like an experiment, to test the compatibility of future Xbox consoles to a variety of devices.

As for something new, Nintendo brought a new Wii–the Wii Mini.  It’s as big as an external hard drive that costs only $99.99.  It’s kind of like a refurbished original Wii, only smaller and looks cool in it’s black and red matte finish, but not quite.  You see, there’s a lot of catch to its $99.99 price tag–it has no WiFi or Internet capabilities, it doesn’t support Nintendo GameCube games, and it’s only available in Canada, well, at least for the holiday season.  No news yet is Nintendo will be bringing it to other markets considering the success of Wii U which sold more than 400,000 units in just its first week of release.

“There are games in the Wii library for every type of player,” said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s vice president and general manager. “Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price, but it’s all about big fun.”

So, although it can’t play GameCube games (a major selling point for every console, being able to play older games) and it has no WiFi, Canadians will be having a Nintendo holiday season no doubt.
