Microsoft Officially Launches Outlook.com

Microsoft has officially launched Outlook.com, ending the preview that started more than six months ago. The announcement is anticlimactic in the sense that it already has gained 60 million users in six months, making it probably the world’s fastest growing e-mail service. Microsoft says Outlook.com was designed with a focus on removing barriers and “simply getting people going.” More

 

Vodafone Netherlands Deploys Cisco to Manage Enterprise Broadband

Vodafone Netherlands, the second largest telecom service provider in the Netherlands, has deployed Cisco’s Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) Services Manager to manage its enterprise broadband services to enterprise customers. The software-based networking solution is a component of the recently announced Cisco Quantum, part of the Cisco Service Provider Mobility Group. It enables Vodafone to deliver a better enterprise customer experience through next-generation policy control and service management capabilities. More

 

Cisco Opens Opportunities for Services Providers with Mobile Internet Innovations

Cisco has announced several innovations to enable service providers to monetize the explosion of mobile Internet connections – predicted to grow 13-fold by 2017 – more effectively. The new Cisco software suite, Small Cell Innovations, and network infrastructure are designed to benefit from the “Internet of Everything” . These new technologies are designed to enable service providers to deliver new, better, and more personalized connected experiences and gain more intelligence about these networked connections that they can use to deliver new revenue-generating services. NVIDIA Introduces First Integrated Tegra LTE Processor

NVIDIA has announced its first fully integrated 4G LTE mobile processor, the NVIDIA Tegra 4i, which is significantly faster yet half the size of its nearest competitor. Codenamed “Project Grey”, the Tegra 4i contains 60 custom NVIDIA GPU cores, a quad-core CPU based on ARM’s newest and most efficient core – the R4 Cortex-A9 CPU – and a fifth battery saver core. This makes it a power-efficient, compact, high-performance mobile processor that enables smartphone performance and capability previously available only in expensive super phones. More

 

NVIDIA Introduces GeForce GTX Titan: DNA of the World’s Fastest Supercomputer

NVIDIA has announced the GeForce GTX Titan, powered by the fastest GPU yet developed and designed for the world’s fastest gaming PCs, including personal gaming supercomputers and svelte, quiet, small form-factor PCs. It is powerful enough to play any game at any resolution at any time, says Scott Herkelman, general manager of the GeForce business unit at NVIIA. It uses the NVIDIA Kepler architecture that powers the Oak Ridge National laboratory’s new Titan supercomputer, which is the top supercomputer in the world. More

 

NVIDIA Introduces Chimera, World’s First Mobile Computational Photography Architecture

NVIDIA has announced the Chimera Computational Photography Architecture available on the Tegra 4 family of mobile processors. Chimera offers features not available previously on mobile devices, including always-on high-dynamic range (HDR) still and video photography and HDR panoramic and persistent tap-to-track capabilities. SAP, NBA Introduce New Statistical Site

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and SAP AG have announced NBM.com/Stats, a new statistical destination on NBA.com providing users with interactive access to unlimited amounts of official NBA statistics and analysis. Built on SAP HANA and free to all fans and media, the service features the league’s entire official statistics history, previously available only to league and MBA team personnel. The statistics include every MBA box store, advanced shooting charts, top lineup combinations, in-depth statistical breakdowns, and player pages for every NBA player. More

 

SAP Announces Change in Conference Strategy, Focus on Regional Forums Rather than a Single European SAPPHIRE

SAP AG has announced a reinvigorated focus on dedicated, customer-centric events for its 2013 event strategy, including stronger customized and enhanced local experiences for customers and partners in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Deloitte Finds Mobile Technology Boosts Public Sector Productivity and Service Quality

Adoption of mobile technology could help to close the widening productivity gap between the private and public sectors according to new research from Deloitte. The report, “Gov. On the Go: Boosting Public-Sector Productivity by Going Mobile” argues that mobility presents governments with an opportunity to drive efficiency and productivity. The report shows that the public sector lags in its ability to use new technologies to full advantage. More

 

Google Reports Progress on War Against Account Hijackers

Increasing volumes of spam and online scam messages are being sent from hijacked e-mail accounts, appearing in recipients’ mailboxes as having been sent from people they know. This is the new strategy that spammers and scam artists have adopted to get past increasingly effective spam filters, and it means many cyber criminals are turning into account thieves. They break into Web sites to streal databases of user names an passwords to sell on the black market or use themselves. In response, Google now has a system in place that performs a complex risk analysis using more than 120 variables to determine how likely it is that the sign-in is legitimate. More
