Storage Vendor Tegile Gearing Up for VMworld

Tegile Systems will be showing off its flagship Zebi lineup in booth #1928 at next week’s VMworld 2013 conference. The event is set to take place in San Francisco from Sunday through Thursday, August 25-29.

Tegile is a Newark, CA-based provider of hybrid storage arrays that recently secured $35 million in Series C funding after doubling its quarterly revenue growth. The company claims that its Zebi arrays deliver as much as seven times the performance of legacy disk arrays while using up to 75 percent less capacity.

“We are excited about the opportunity to show our full line of Zebi storage arrays to those attending this year’s VMworld in San Francisco,” said Rob Commins, the vice president of marketing at Tegile. “Whether implemented in desktop or server virtualization scenarios, our Zebi arrays allow enterprises to better address the unique challenges of VMware environments by delivering massive performance using significantly less capacity than legacy arrays.”

The feature that sets Tegile’s solutions apart from the competition is its proprietary Metadata Accelerated Storage System (MASS), which achieves “solid state speeds” without sacrificing the capacity or the cost efficiency of traditional disk storage. The Zebi product family marries the technology with a Copy on Write (COW) file system, deduplication and data compression to “enable more hosted virtual desktops for a lower investment in storage and network infrastructure.”

Tegile has a number of notable customers, among them Voonami. The Utah-based colocation provider has successfully added 20 terabytes to its environment using the vendor’s arrays, which its IT department is “very happy” with according to Steve Newell. The engineer discussed his company’s use case in a recent Wikibon Peer Incite event hosted by co-founder Dave Vellante and senior analyst Stu Miniman
