Samsung Announces The Galaxy A6 - Maybe? NEWS

Samsung Galaxy S6 to launch March 1st, may have curved screen

Samsung Announces The Galaxy A6 - Maybe?Samsung Co. Ltd.’s new flagship phone the Galaxy S6 will be launched March 1st, with the company sending out invitations to a press event in Barcelona.

The invite includes a curved screen, hinting that Samsung could be possibly using a form factor it has previously used for the Samsung Note Edge.

As we reported in December, the rumor mill has been working overtime on exactly what to expect from the S6; one report puts it with 5.5-inch screen running at 2560×1440 pixels, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit Octa-Core CPU, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage, with 20 megapixel and 5 megapixel cameras back and front respectively. Another report claimed the rear facing camera is 16-megapixels.

A report from Business Insider today claims that the phone will be made out of metal, a change for Samsung from its typical plastic designs.

The new flagship Galaxy S6 can’t come quickly enough for the Korean tech giant after it posted declining mobile phone sales at the end of 2014. For the quarter ending December 31st, Samsung reported of 64 percent drop in earnings to 1.96 trillion won ($1.8 billion) compared the same quarter in 2013. This marked the fifth quarter in a row that the Samsung’s mobile division earnings declined.

Samsung faces a number of challenges with its new phone, including a resurgent Apple with its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models now matching Samsung for sales volume, and relative late comers such as China’s Xiaomi Inc. killing Samsung in China and emerging markets.

It is far too early to write Samsung off yet though as some media outlets have; sure, the S5 wasn’t exactly an inspiring phone, and there are shades of HTC in the Samsung tale, in terms of HTC once owning the Android market then losing it as it failed to keep up with its competitors. But if Samsung can deliver a S6 that actually has some wow factor, and offers something new and unique, there’s no reason why sales cant start growing again in the year ahead.
