Where to buy a charger for the New Nintendo 3DS XL

nintendo3ds.pngNintendo Co., Ltd. is all set to release the new Nintendo 3DS XL in the US. The announcement has been met with much fanfare and interest in the new technology for this new handheld console.

But, when Nintendo announced that the American version of new 3DS XL does not include charger, some fans were upset. After all, when was the last time you saw a console or handheld device without this accessory?

The company acted quickly and explained that it wanted to offer the console at a lower price, plus it would be compatible with all chargers from older versions: DSi, 3DS and 2DS adapters.

Adapters available at many online retailers

For many potential customers who don’t have a charger, Nintendo sells the official DSi and 3DS charger for $9.95 at the Nintendo Store online. A number of electronics retailers —Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop and Amazon–also sell third-party chargers, which work just as well as a Nintendo charger. Walmart is selling the chargers in discounted price ranging from $0.99 to $6.99. But, it is recommended to use the official charger–using third party may void your device’s warranty.

“New Nintendo 3DS XL uses the same AC adapter as any Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo DSi system. Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter,” said a Nintendo representative.

This is the first time that the company is selling the console without an AC adapter. The charger has been removed from the packaging for several regions including Europe and Japan for a while now, but this is the first occasion that a piece of hardware will be released without the charger in North America.
