OKU – Personal skin coach

Everyone wants healthy, younger-looking skin. Achieving it, though, is another matter.

Thanks to the Internet of Things and advancements in science and technology, taking care of one’s skin can now be as simple as placing a small device on the dermis to analyze what it really needs.

OKU is a small cube that utilizes dermoscopy, nanotechnology and spectroscopy to be able to analyze skin’s pigmentation, luminosity, firmness, moisture, oil and texture. Based on the results, OKU offers recommendations on diet and lifestyle changes to promote healthier, younger skin.

Currently OKU is only compatible with iPhones, but Android compatibility is slated for release this year. You can pre-order OKU for $249.95 here, and it comes with a docking station and carrying case.

Violet UV tracker

Getting your daily dose of Vitamin D via sun exposure can be tricky, as you don’t know if the time you spent exposed to the sun’s rays is enough to produce your required daily dose without putting your skin at risk of damage.

Violet, created and developed by Ultra, Inc., is a wearable devices that aims to help people determine when their time out in the sun is enough, when it’s time to hit the shade, as well as how much Vitamin D has been produced from your sun exposure.

Violet is water resistant, so you can wear it in the shower or while playing at the beach. It uses a coin battery that lasts up to six months with normal use, which means the device can be worn daily to sync data on a consistent basis. You can input the SPF of your sunscreen on the device itself or the smartphone app, so Violet can determine when it’s time to reapply sunscreen, when you’ve absorbed enough UV and produced enough Vitamin D.

A single Violet device can be used by every member of the family, as individual profiles can be created using the mobile app and Violet will be able to determine the appropriate sun exposure for each skin type. You can now pre-order Violet for $99 and shipping starts in April 2015.
