Apple Watch vs other luxury smartwatches

Apple Watch Edition 18-karat GoldApple has finally revealed the pre-order date for the long awaited Apple Watch, starting April 10, while retail availability starts on April 24.

You can’t deny that the Apple Watch looks good. Even the Watch Sport edition looks more classy than other smartwatches available in the market, but it’s not the first or only luxury smartwatch of today. And for the price, somewhere between $349 to $17,000, there’s quite a range for buyers.

But how does the Apple Watch compare with the other luxury smartwatches recently hitting stores? Which smartwatch is worth your time?

The Verdict

The Apple Watch comes in three editions that caters to people’s different interests and levels of activity, and they’re all aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Even the Watch Sport version isn’t too bulky for activity buffs.  For the retail price of about $350, Apple Watch is on par with the Samsung Gear S, though the physical design of both watches is set for a luxury market and will be a matter of preference. However, Huawei may be at a disadvantage with its watch’s $1,000 price tag .

For the specifications and features, all these smartwatches perform similar functions; notifications, fitness tracking, navigation, social media integration and in most instances phone calls and text messages are supported. So user preference in this case boils down to the watches’ interface and usability.

The LG Watch Urbane LTE and Samsung Gear S smartwatches have a slight lead over the other two devices because of their network connectivity. The two smartwatches can operate on their own, even if the smartphone is not with you.
