Improved efficiency for global infrastructure | #splunkconf

Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization with a four-part goal. It provides support materials connecting resources with those in need, form partnerships between companies and non-profit organizations, bring experiences through the stepping into another’s shoes program, and to unite companies and community together through fair trade.

Tom Pike, IT manager for Crossroads Foundation, sat down with John Furrier and George Gilbert, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE’ Media team, at Splunk .conf 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to discuss how Splunk, Inc. helps him manage an infrastructure that spans the globe.

Global management

The non-profit organization has to do a lot more with less. “Operationally, Splunk is the cornerstone of the technology we use,” said Pike, who manages 184 shipping containers in 24 different countries. Splunk is allowing the organization to manage its infrastructure and stretch its resources.

With an IT staff of three, Splunk is a critical management tool for the organization that is seeing radical changes in the devices it manages. Pike indicated that Crossroads does not have a large amount of data to manage, but it is leveraging data from the past to understand how the non-profit interacts with its partners.

Improved productivity

Pike also said that using Splunk also helps them pinpoint service problems. The company has improved volunteer login access by 35 percent. “With Splunk, we are able to pinpoint problems and make our systems better and more productive.”
