Newest Siri, Apple Watch apps for smart homes

More companies are announcing integration with HomeKit, Apple’s home automation platform. From smart home apps to connected lights, the list just keeps getting longer.

Zysco launches Apple Watch home automation

Most recently is Zysco Company, unveiling that the latest update of PowerHouz, the company’s home automation app, is now fully integrated with Apple’s HomeKit.

The update also includes an Apple Watch version of the app. Zysco claims its is the first app to offer the management of Accessories, Users, Service Groups, Action Sets and Triggers across the entire family of Apple mobile devices – iPhone, iPod, iPad and Apple Watch. The update also adds the ability to add third party app shortcuts, making it a strong contender for managing the Home Portal Application.

Siri-controlled smart lights

Another company that announced HomeKit integration is Nanoleaf Ltd., the company that brought us the Nanoleaf Connected Ivy, which Nanoleaf claims is the most energy efficient smart bulb in the world.

The HomeKit integration was accompanied by the launch of the Nanoleaf Smarter Kit, which includes one dodecahedron-inspired Nanoleaf Smart Hub which can support up to 50 bulbs and two Nanoleaf Smart Ivy bulbs.

The HomeKit integration allows users to control their Nanoleaf bulbs using Siri, which makes commanding lights to turn on or off is as easy as having a chat with Siri.

Nanoleaf Smarter KitYou can also utilize the Nanoleaf Smarter App for detailed customization such as naming bulbs or creating scenes, which will make it easier for Siri to control individual bulbs. You can simply say, “Siri turn off John’s lights” or “Siri, set lights for movie night.” You can even easily control how bright you want a room to be by just stating at what percentage you want lights in a certain room are to be set, such as “Set living room lights to 50 percent.”

The Nanoleaf Smart Hub has a 50-meter range which allows it to reach the far corners of your house – unless you live in a mansion, in that case, you would probably need two or more hubs.

Nanoleaf’s smart bulbs are very different from other smart hubs available in the market because they are designed like puzzle pieces put together.

The Nanoleaf Smarter Kit is currently on Indiegogo, Inc. and early backers can expect the items to be shipped by December 2015.

Royal Philips also recently released its Hue Bridge 2.0 which included support for Apple HomeKit, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with other HomeKit enabled devices.

Both Philips and Nanoleaf describe their products as future-proof, able to support multiple connected home platforms as well as old and new bulbs and lamps.
