Design-as-a-Service: Online interior design service Havenly raises $7.5m Series A

Online interior design service Havenly, Inc. has raised $7.5 million Series A in a round led by the Foundry Group that included participation from other private investors that were not disclosed.

Founded in 2014, Havenly offers an online interior design service that matches users with designers to curate any room for a flat fee starting from $79.

The service sets up a customer with their own personal interior designer who takes the customer’s style and inspiration data via a national interior design platform quiz to help designers design the space and to virtually decorate their room; users can then purchase any of the products a designer suggests for them through the Havenly website, with a promise of cheap prices and door-to-door delivery.

Havenly also enters partnerships with design publications to deliver a wider variety of design options, with the latest deal with Domino magazine part of a focus by the company of becoming a major online player within the broader interior design space.

“Since launch, we have focused on investing in technologies that make our design services go above and beyond what other companies are able to do. Through our unique survey and platform, we’ve been able to create a datadriven approach to design, that allows us to predict and recommend the best products for our customers,” Havenly Founder and Chief Executive Officer Lee Mayer said in a statement sent to SiliconANGLE. “Seeing over 50% of our customers return for additional services, we know we’re on the right track and want to continue to provide them with access to top notch services.”

Interior design doesn’t jump out as a market that would be the most natural fit as an online service, but in an age where anything and everything is moving online, there should be no reason why interior design couldn’t or shouldn’t as well.

Havenly isn’t alone in this space with Zoom Interior Designs, Inc. offering a similar service, and both stand out given as Zoom’s founder Beatrice Fischel-Bock succinctly said in one interview “All aspects of our lives are improved by technology… It seemed only natural for us to merge tech and interior design to help clients with their homes.”

Prior to the new round, Havenly had raised two rounds, one a $20,000 seed round, and a further undisclosed sum in March 2015.

The company said it would  use the funding to expand head count and further develop the platform’s design concierge services.
