Is Hewlett Packard Enterprise on solid footing for the future? | #HPEDiscover

As theCUBE wrapped up its coverage of HPE Discover 2015 in London, John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, brought in Blogger and Storage Evangelist for Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), Calvin Zito to deliver a unified analysis and share perspectives on the debut show for the new HPE.

What’s in a name?

As the discussion began, Zito made clear the branding of the new company. “Acting as the branding police, it is important to note you never say ‘HP enterprise.’ It is either HPE or the full name Hewlett Packard Enterprise,” he said. Zito went on to explain the process of branding the new company.

Impressed by the show overall, Furrier noted that he liked the fact that layout of the show floor did not resemble an org chart. Zito commented that it was harder for people to find specific products, but overall the solution-focused displays were remarkable.

Furrier also thought Meg Whitman’s (HPE’s CEO) sincere thank you to the customers for their business was a nice touch.

Solid footing for the future

Looking at past discussions regarding HP, Vellante regards the split as a positive on the new balance sheet. He feels it cleans everything up and makes the company more flexible than it was in the past. Zito explained Whitman did this to reduce the debt and put HPE on solid footing to make further acquisitions.

The other hot topic was the Synergy product release and how HP is moving toward a composable infrastructure. “Customers are looking for infrastructure to disappear,” Zito said.

Social selling

The group discussed the social media at the show, and Furrier felt it was not the same as in the U.S. Zito said the volume is about the same, and he added that the HPE team is strong when it comes to unifying and collaborating on social media. More and more, marketing is becoming more social as customers are looking for one to one information and sourcing information from peers.
