Arrayent connects developers to IoT ecosystems with the EcoAdaptor for Nest

Arrayent, Inc., developer of the Arrayent Connect platform for Internet of Things (IoT) networks, recently announced Its first commercially available rapid deployment service for IoT ecosystems called an EcoAdaptor: the EcoAdaptor for Nest.

EcoAdaptors from Arrayent expand the capability for developers to connect with already-existing third-party IoT ecosystems by abstracting the behaviors and functionality in those ecosystems. The model is “adaptor-specific” in that Arrayent uses a “data model to deliver user and device data to the ecosystem that triggers specific actions that are unique to the user.”

The name “EcoAdaptor” would seem to be a portmanteau of “Ecosystem” and “Adaptor,” which is an apt description of what the service does: adapts the Arrayent platform to connect to a particular third-party IoT ecosystem. In this case the first announced adapts to the Nest ecosystem.

The Arrayent EcoAdaptor for Nest has been built on top of the “Works with Nest” certification.

Amid IoT ecosystem platforms, Nest from Nest Labs (subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.) is a mature and well known brand. It was acquired by Google (now Alphabet) in 2014 for $3.2 billion and has expanding its functionality ever since. According to the research firm Parks Associates, nearly 20 percent of U.S. broadband households have at least one IoT device and it is expected that by 2025 66 percent will have at least one smart product. That’s a lot of room for ecosystems such as Nest to grow into.

To leverage this potential for developers, the EcoAdaptor for Nest gives developers using the Arrayent service access to the “Away” and “At Home” modes for Nest platforms, which are accessible to developers who passed the Net Labs “Works with Nest” certification process. These two modes describe actions taken by the Nest platform in particular conditions. In this example, those conditions would be what to do when people are not in the house (or “Away”) and how to behave when people are home (or “At Home”).

The EcoAdaptor product is designed to give developers a jump-start on using third-party APIs and the first one provides that jump-start for Nest.

Bridging the gap between developers and third-party ecosystems

“Our customers want to expand their businesses beyond stand-alone products to create service-oriented ecosystems that integrate through Cloud-to-Cloud connections,” said Cyril Brignone, CEO of Arrayent. “With our new EcoAdaptor for Nest, our global brand customers can more quickly build on the Works with Nest API to increase the functionality and value of their own products.”

The EcoAdaptor service also has everything it needs to allow further the production of partner-specific EcoAdaptors via an API. Using the API, developers can connect the EcoAdaptor product to any third-party ecosystem, including those not yet available officially via Arrayent.

In addition to Nest, Arrayent also has an EcoAdaptor for Salesforce.com, developer of a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platform. This service provides developers the ability to send service tickets to the Salesforce CRM and is sold and supported by Arrayent partner OSF Global Services.

More information is available on the Arrayent Connect Platform, upon which the EcoAdaptors extend, and for developers there is the Arrayent Development Kit (requires registration).
