Exploring Big Data as a Service at Qubole’s inaugural event

How are companies building out their big data platforms for current self-service trends and automated offerings? What industry lessons have been learned and what challenges remain?

Looking to answer these questions and others, SiliconANGLE is at the Data Platforms Conference 2017, which is currently underway in Phoenix, Arizona, with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE.

The Data Platforms Conference, presented by Big Data as a Service company Qubole Inc., claims to be the first industry conference focused exclusively on helping data teams build modern, self-service big data platforms.

With an additional $30 million in funding and what it’s called “exponential growth” last year, Qubole’s riding the momentum of high-profile clients and notable use cases, including Lyft Inc. and Scripps Health. With 50 percent growth to its team and a big boost to its sales and marketing departments, Qubole’s inaugural event comes at a time when the company faces the challenges of global expansion in Europe and Asia, where data management regulations can vary vastly across regions.

Enabling big data build-outs is a trying task for many platform providers, as current trends for the Internet of Things and applied cognitive computing force modernization methods for enterprise infrastructure. Recent months have seen numerous players unveiling updates to their data platforms, including Hortonworks Inc., MapR Technologies Inc., Zensar Technologies Ltd. and others.
