EMERGING TECH

A splintered HPE unites behind Pointnext, takes on the consulting market

Having sold off its software business and spun out smaller businesses yet, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. focuses efforts on the services side of information technology. Amidst the company’s ongoing transformation, an emphasis on consultancy services is emerging for HPE, tapping its expansive partner network to service clients seeking hybrid IT infrastructure.

“We told you we were going to do something big with our services business, and that’s what we did,” said Flynn Maloy (pictured), vice president of services marketing at HPE, speaking at the HPE Discover conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the conference, Maloy stopped by theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile live-streaming studio, to talk with co-hosts John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante) about HPE’s new take on services and the company’s role in the digital transformation of businesses. (* Disclosure below.)

Servicing digital transformations

HPE Pointnext is a consolidated digital transformation services group, launched as a strong reaction to market demand, with a goal to bring services and consulting business to the forefront. HPE is lighting off a signal that it plans to walk the walk on digital transformation, leading with services, designing for outcomes and then bringing in technology.

“We believe in what’s next; we believe in always looking to the future,” Maloy said. The creation of Pointnext follows that mantra. Pointnext represents a break from the past, according to Maloy. The focus is on advising, helping companies understand the digital transformation.

HPE’s hybrid IT is also geared for edge-of-network solutions. Customers consuming on-premises need assessments inside the company’s own environment, Maloy explained. Companies can deploy this type of service not only in datacenters, but also on factory floors, in shopping malls and anywhere else devices reside on the edge of the network. HPE plans to go strong on this segment of the market, he added.

Not every customer needs a huge transformation, so Pointnext is built to help with smaller concerns as well, Maloy concluded.
