AI-powered video analytics company Conviva raises $40M for future expansion

Conviva Inc., a San Mateo, California-based company that uses artificial intelligence to measure and manage video plays, has raised $40 million in new funding.

Founded in 2006, Conviva aims to address the “changing business of television” with a big-data platform that enables online video providers to customize their content for their viewers. The company’s Intelligent Control Platform uses AI and machine learning to allow content publishers to control over video delivery by allowing them to “identify and preemptively avoid Internet bottlenecks and breakdowns,” or put more simply, deliver their videos with less delay.

The company has partnerships with premium entertainment, news, sports and media brands, as well as service providers in 180 countries. Its software is deployed across 2.5 billion devices globally and measures more than 1 billion streaming minutes per day of video content. Clients include HBO GO, ESPN, AEGMedia, VEVO, NBC, Turner and Disney.

“We have consistently been growing faster than the overall market and have developed a strong, sustainable business model,” Conviva Chief Executive Officer Hui Zhang said in a statement. “We are excited to close this round of funding so we can accelerate our new product offerings and our global market expansion, extending our technology and market leadership in OTT measurement and analytics.”

The round included Future Fund, New Enterprise Associates, Foundation Capital and Time Warner Investments. With the new funding, Conviva has raised $100 million to date. Previous investors include GGV Capital, Kalaari Capital and Pelion Venture Partners.
