Strategic alliances in tech form backbone of digital transformation

Partnerships and alliances are nothing new in the technology sector. Modern times, however, have seen companies reach outside their industries to find tech partners who can bring them into the digital age. IBM Corp. has proven a popular partner for this journey.

“With IBM, we’ve had a long-term alliance starting back in 2004 around backup and managed services. It’s evolved into a very strategic alliance,” said Michelle Van Amburg (pictured, left), director of global partner sales at Veritas Technologies LLC.

Van Amburg was joined by Daniel Witteveen (pictured, right), vice president of resiliency services at IBM, in an interview with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Veritas Vision conference in Las Vegas. They discussed partnerships, digital transformation and serving customers. (* Disclosure below.)

Partnering for security and stability

Few companies go the cloud all by themselves, turning to a technology partner for help. For Veritas, that partner was IBM, which provided both internal support to information technology departments to migrate key applications into the cloud and helped with backup and services. Van Amburg also mentioned IBM’s strength in the enterprise market as a benefit.

“We measure ourselves against the business outcomes for our clients, and that truly is vendor-agnostic,” Witteveen said. In the case of Veritas, IBM has offered its experience with resiliency and security. This combines with the service software of Veritas to provide those outcomes to their mutual and individual customers.

Going to the cloud is one step in becoming a digital business. However, the digital transformation is not a one-time event. It’s a continual journey, a transformation through innovation. Even Veritas itself is still on that journey. “How do you get there, how do you save costs over time, and how do you keep your business running with all the governance and compliance regulations?” Van Amburg asked.

Veritas knows that success as a digital business means more than one product or point in time. Instead, the company is planning for an evolution over time. Given new technologies and regulations are a certainty, this plan must also be flexible. With the help of IBM, Veritas seeks to keep pace and grow its business through digital transformation, Van Amburg concluded.
