Watch live from Splunk .conf2017

How can information technology keep pace with machine-learned systems, solving problems at the edge of the network where devices like smartphones and sensors thrive on real-time interactions?

Looking to answer this question and others, SiliconANGLE is at Splunk .conf2017, currently underway in Washington, D.C., with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE. (* Disclosure below.) At the company’s eighth annual conference, machine-data management provider Splunk Inc. will explore the latest Operational Intelligence trends in cloud computing, business analytics, the Internet of Things and machine learning.

Splunk blew past its second-quarter revenue forecast with a 32-percent jump in sales and revenues of $280 million, in large part thanks to increased spending on security technologies. The big data security market is expected to grow from $12.22 billion in 2017 to $26.85 billion by 2022, according to MarketsandMarkets Research Private Ltd.

“Splunk doesn’t have the breadth of use cases, but they built all the pieces — storage, user interfacing, dashboarding, even the machine learning — so it all fits together so you can install and get value very quickly,” said George Gilbert, big data analyst at Wikibon Research (Wikibon Inc. is owned by the same parent company as SiliconANGLE Media Inc.). “You don’t need five administrators. One or two people can get it up and running in a day and start looking at the data.”

This year has seen Splunk introduce a new data monitoring tool for Amazon Web Services Inc. cloud users, while Rackspace Inc. teamed up with the company in June on machine learning initiatives. Earlier this year, Splunk and New Relic Inc. announced a strategic alliance that will integrate Splunk’s back-end information technology monitoring platform with New Relic’s application and code-tracking solutions. Just last week Dell EMC announced an expanded relationship with the company to harness the power of machine data.

The company also joined a $15.8 million funding round into Insight Engines Inc., a startup whose tool is able to inspect security logs with Splunk’s data-crunching platform using plain-English queries.
