Quick Base adds enterprise-friendly features to its low-code app development platform

Low-code software development platform provider Quick Base Inc. is shoring up its product with new capabilities designed to enable greater visibility into user activity, streamline the management of application deployments and ensure compliance.

Quick Base is one of a host of companies aiming to dominate emerging low-code software development, which involves minimizing the hand-coding of applications by configuring existing functions from other platforms and apps to speed up development. It essentially means creating apps via program generators or programming languages that tie prewritten functions together.

Other companies that have jumped in include Microsoft Corp. with its recently announced IoT Central service, which claims to enable users to “build production-grade IoT applications in hours.” Enterprise-focused workflow automation provider ServiceNow Inc. has also entered the low-code game through its October acquisition of SkyGiraffe Inc., a former rival to Quick Base.

Quick Base said in its pitch that the growth of low-code software development is being driven by a desire from enterprise workforces to solve problems more quickly to transform their businesses. The idea is that teams can move much faster if they can build software applications themselves, without waiting for information technology teams to come up with a solution to problems for them.

“The biggest difference between what we do and what other platforms do is that we are truly no-code, and designed for business users who can’t program,” said Jay Jamison, Quick Base’s senior vice president of strategy and product management. “Low-code platforms are useful for IT leaders who want to help their staff streamline app development, but if your mission is to increase organizational efficiency and help people build solutions as they need them, a no-code platform like ours will be more advantageous.”

Quick Base said its updating its platform with new features it designed after receiving feedback from its users about the kinds of functionality they desire from its low-code platform. These include a new audit logging feature that provides more visibility into user’s activity, including any changes made to data and applications that could affect security or compliance policies.

The platform has also been updated with a new user management console to streamline large deployments. Finally, there’s a new “Super User” feature that enables greater access and control over all Quick Base apps.

Lastly, Quick Base said it’s adding a new customized pricing option for enterprises.
