EMERGING TECH

Using AI to solve business problems before they occur

The future was on display at IFS World in Atlanta, Georgia, this week, where an innovation area displayed current and predicted technology in an end-to-end, autonomous business scenario. Staying ahead of the curve by innovating solutions for problems before they occur is modus operandi at enterprise software company IFS, which has already integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning into its business applications.

“Instead of looking at a customer problem and trying to find a solution, we basically look ahead, look a couple of years into the future. What kind of technologies are coming up, what kind of possibilities are there, and can we find a problem for them?” said Bas de Vos (pictured, left), director of IFS Labs.

De Vos and Dan Matthews (pictured, right), chief technology officer of IFS, spoke with Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick) and Rebecca Knight (@knightrm), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the IFS World Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. They discussed new user experiences and the future of business applications. (* Disclosure below.)

Making business apps intuitive

Examples of cutting-edge technology from IFS Labs on display in the innovation area included a blockchain inside enterprise asset management; making service repairs using mixed reality with wearable technology; and digital twins in virtual reality.

Just released as part of the IFS Applications 10 enterprise applications suite is IFS Aurena, an interactive assistant that uses AI and ML to give the business customer an engaging user experience.

“What we’ve done is create something that we think is more inspired by really well-designed consumer software, and we’ve adapted that for these big enterprise applications that we are doing,” Matthews said. “When it comes to software, how great a tool is, is a large part down to the user experience.”
