Nutanix furthers its push into new cloud markets at .NEXT US

An oversaturated cloud computing market has pushed many information technology organizations to differentiate their enterprise utility through strategic partnerships and the adoption of new support tools. With a strong base in hyperconverged infrastructure appliances and influential partners like Dell Technologies Inc., Lenovo Group Ltd, and most recently Google Inc., Nutanix Inc. is rapidly surpassing expectations for annual revenue. And its latest product developments optimizing cloud application management seek to continue that growth pace. As the need for hyperconverged and cloud services continues to grow, how will Nutanix fare amid increasing competition?

Looking to answer these and other questions, SiliconANGLE is at Nutanix .NEXT US, currently underway in New Orleans, Louisiana, with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE, from Wednesday, May 9, to Thursday, May 10. (* Disclosure below.)

Challenging new information technology requirements around initiatives in cloud, edge computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning are creating an increasing demand for more efficient implementation and deployment processes in the enterprise. With its promises of cost reduction, security and improved scalability in virtualization, the hyperconverged infrastructure market is expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 48 percent and expected to reach $17026.74 million by 2023.

A fierce competitor in the global HCI market, Nutanix has seen significant growth of its own. The company beat forecasts for its second fiscal quarter, reporting $286.7 million in revenue and 44 percent year-over-year growth. Nutanix cited 57 new deals worth over $1 million in its latest earnings report, bringing it to a total of 57 customers with more than $5 million in lifetime bookings and 15 with more than $15 million in lifetime billings.

Nutanix’s pivot to a software focused business model is likely the force behind its recent growth. Stu Miniman (@stu), an analyst with Wikibon (owned by the same company as SiliconANGLE), predicts the shift will continue to serve the company well as competition grows from providers like Dell EMC. “Nutanix for the past two years has positioned [itself] for enterprise environments, partnering with Google and maturing tailored solutions. They’ve been making the switch to become a software-only company …  [to] become more valuable to the market and Wall Street,” he said.

These software-centric transformations have come in the form of new partnerships, releases and product adoptions from Nutanix. The company recently partnered with Cyxtera Technologies Inc. for on-demand HCI via its new software-powered data center architecture. Comtrade Software Inc., now rebranded as HYCU Inc. (Hyperconverged Uptime), announced new features to support Nutanix Acropolis File Services and enable data protection across both Nutanix and non-Nutanix environments in late March 2018. Earlier that month Nutanix bid to acquire Netsil Inc., a comprehensive monitoring and visualization platform for cloud applications that simplifies network management. At the onset of 2018, the company released its AOS 5.5 update, bringing 50 new hybrid cloud optimization features to customers. These additions to its enterprise cloud platform aim to provide relief from the time-consuming, labor-intensive, repetitive work that has so far characterized application lifecycle management.

In addition to positioning for enterprise environments, Nutanix has also nurtured a growing federal cloud market. The company announced record adoption of its AHV hypervisor with federal entities in 2017, and an addition of 20 new federal customers with investments of more than $1 million each. With estimations of U.S. federal cloud spend doubling over the next four years to meet increasing pressures to modernize and reduce cost inefficiencies, Nutanix appears well positioned to fulfill the needs within this growing market.

Regardless of industry, Nutanix’s mission is to simplify processes in the hybrid cloud. How it plans to achieve this end and innovate in the cloud space will be explored at Nutanix .NEXT US.
